In order to gain practical knowledge of utilizing 3D technology, our class was fortunate enough to receive the opportunity to scan the Owens-Thomas basement. Built between 1816-1819, the Owens-Thomas House is now one of the most famous house museums in Savannah. This English-Regency style home was built by the famous architect William Jay. These are only a few of the reasons why this property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark. The basement is one of the only remaining, unrestored areas of this home.

The area itself is relatively small, consisting of one main hallway connecting five small rooms; two on the right side and three on the left. The lighting in the space is also extremely limited! Considering the fact that we are technically in a raised basement with very low ceilings, natural light is difficult to come by. The low ceilings are also plagued by aluminum air ducks. Unfortunately, these will be nearly impossible to avoid while scanning the space in its entirety. Hopefully, the experience of scanning this area will prove more beneficial than problematic.
